How did it happen

I gave my first shot when I was 13 years. It was my aunt Vijaya Nirmala and uncle Krishna's movie —Pandanti Kapuram. In the movie I play their daughter. That was one of the biggest movies made during those days and I got to act with all the big actors. I saw Jamunaji, B. Saroja Devi and Devika. Being brought up in Chennai I didn't know Telugu actors too well.

The only actor whom I knew was Jamunaji who did movies with MGR and I happened to watch a few. I had to act with two other children in Pandanti Kapuram one of them was Sulochna. Being a child actor my dialogues were limited and I remember I was a little nervous on the set initially, but later got quite comfortable. In the entire movie I forgot four dialogues and I still remember that.

How it felt

It was great to see myself on the screen with all the leading actors. After that I came back to Chennai and started my classes in school and non one knew about it. Telugu movies would not get released in Chennai.

How has the journey been so far?

Remarkable one. It was an amazing journey for me. But initially I felt a little uneasy with having to lead a life for others; I was missing the freedom of a common girl. Then I got used to it and I loved the attention I got from all quarters. It is because of my profession that I have fans even now. I am getting back to doing movies. I will begin shooting for five movies very soon. I have always loved my job but the fact that it is male-dominated puts me off. I appear in just one scene in one of the five movies I'm doing now. It's Sai Kumar's movie and they are sentimental that I should play the role. So I obliged. My acting career has taught me to be strong, to stand up to what is right and not let anyone take me for granted.
