Mike Pandey gets Shantaram Award

The veteren environmental filmmaker was honoured at Mumbai International Film Festival

Veteran environmental filmmaker Mike Pandey was on Friday honoured with the prestigious V. Shantaram Life Time Achievement Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival 2012.

Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan presented the award to Mr. Pandey for his documentaries on wildlife conservation and environment, an official release stated.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhury Mohan Jatua, senior documentary filmmaker and film historian Vijaya Mulay, director of Mumbai International Film Festival Anil Kumar N, actor Amruta Khanwilkar and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh.

It was instituted in 1996 in memory of the legendary filmmaker Shantaram. “It aims to recognise the multifaceted contributions of an Indian to the documentary film movement,” the note said.

Mr. Pandey has won several national and international awards.
