UTV World Movies' 'Movie of the month' is "Buena Vista Social Club", a 118-minute reminder why cameras and microphones were invented. The movie, directed by Wim Wender and starring Company Segundo, Eliades Ochoa and Ry Cooder, will be screened on October 25 at 8.30 p.m. The movie tells the story of composer / producer / guitarist / musicologist Ry Cooder who goes down to Cuba with a tape of some son music, hoping to make a record. What he does not realise is that many of the aged musicians are living in obscurity and retirement. These are men who created the musical idiom Cooder is intrigued by. He records an album, and it sells far greater than anyone anticipated and wins Grammys. These men, then, take off, playing in Europe and, ultimately, Carnegie Hall.
