Many youngsters, when they leave their hometown/village and go to the city, tend to forget their roots and culture. Vazhividu Kannae Vazhividu's (VKV) hero Thamizh (Baana Kaathadi) even forgets his mother when he falls in love with Madhushree. “The urban influences and freedom make him overlook his responsibilities. Later in the film, when the hero's mother dies and he, at the instance of his lady love, decides to visit his village, the locals teach him a lesson — one that he (and many of his ilk) will not forget in a hurry. At some point, even his girlfriend refuses to marry him. The climax of the film is the most thrilling and thought-provoking,” says director Ali Khan. VKV, scheduled to release this month, talks about a balanced approach to life, remembering one's responsibilities and not losing touch with tradition.
Poetic splendour
It's just over a year since the release of Enthiran , the film with which Karky made his debut as a lyricist. And he has already written more than 50 songs. “The 50th one tentatively titled ‘I'm Missing You' is from Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadu Eppadi (starring Siddarth and Amala Paul) has music by Thaman S. There are four songs in this film and are yet to be completed. While But I am excited about the song I have written for director Shankar's Nanban . Kollywood's loss is Tollywood's gain. Her casting in Chikku Bukku didn't do her career any good, with the film sinking without a trace. Tollywood discovered her potential and Preetika signed Priyudu (opposite Varun Sandesh) which has now been completed. “I am excited about this film as it has exploited my capabilities as an actor. It is a commercial film and I have lots of song and dance sequences, including two solo numbers. I appear in a variety of modern costumes, as against the sedate look in my first Tamil film,” says Preetika. She has also now signed a Kannada film Rebel opposite Aditya and will start shooting in a week. Meanwhile, she is busy with the promotion of Priyudu .
A lot to look forward to
V amsam, Udayan, Mounaguru …with a surfeit of films coming up for release Arulnidhi's career is on an upswing. As for new projects, there are three under consideration. “I will wait for Mounaguru 's release and then decide which one I should sign. My preference will be for a strong character-oriented script. If the story and script are good, nothing else matters.” says Arulnidhi.
Of love and longing
In Payapulla , the hero, Kavin is an orphan while the heroine Kavitha is treated as one by her family. “The film is not just a love story, but a story about love. Payapulla is set in a village and shows what love can do to different types of relationships,” says director Saravanan. The highlight of the film is the music by Canada-based composer Kapileshwar. However, there is one song written by Udayakumar, tuned by Ali Mirsha and sung by Mukesh. The song is a tribute to superstar Rajinikanth. “The producers are ardent fans of Rajini, and wanted this to be included. The song has been well integrated into the script to add meaning to the story,” says Saravanan.
