Indian Rupee , directed by Ranjith under the banner of August Cinema India was adjudged best film in the State film awards for the year 2011 announced by Minister for Cinema K.B. Ganesh Kumar here on Thursday. Dileep won the best actor award for his role in Vellaripraavinte Changaathi while Sweta Menon was selected as the best actress for her role in Salt N’ Pepper .
The jury headed by actor-film-maker Bhagyaraj chose Blessy as the best director for Pranayam . Bobby and Sanjay won the award for the best screenplay for Traffic . The award for the best debutant director went to Sherry for the film Aadimadhyantham .
Ivan Megharoopan directed by P. Balachandran is the second best film. The award for the second best actor went to Fahad Fazil for his roles in Chappa Kurisu and Akam and Nilambur Aisha was selected the second best actress for her role in OomakuyilPaadumbol .
Jagathy Sreekumar’s role in Swapnasanchari won him the award for the best comedian while Malavika Nair bagged the award for the best child artist for Oomakuyil Paadumbol . The award for the best story went to M. Mohan for Manikyakallu and M.J. Radhakrishnan bagged the award for the best cinematographer for Aakasathinte Niram .
The jury selected Sreekumaran Thampy as the best lyricist for the song “Nanayum Nin Mizhiyoram…” in the film Naayika . P. Sarath was adjudged best music director (song) for the songs in the film Ivan Megharoopan and Deepak Dev the best music director (background) for the film Urumi .
Sudeep Kumar won the ward for the best playback singer (male) for the song ‘Chembakapoonkavile…’ in Rathinirvedam while the award for the best playback singer (female) went to Shreya Ghoshal for the songs ‘Kannoram Singaram…’ in Rathinirvedam and Kannodu Kannoram …’ in Veeraputhran .
Vinod Sukumaran was selected best editor for Ivan Megharoopan and Sujith the best art director for Naayika . The award for sound recording went to Rajakrishnan for Urumi and Chappa Kurisu .
Vijay Menon is the best dubbing artist (male) for the film Melvilasam and Praveena the best dubbing artist (female) for Ivan Megharoopan .
The special jury award for the best director went to Biju for Aakasathinte Niram while Master Prijith won a special mention for his role in Aadimadhyantham .
Mazhavil Niraviloode bagged the award for the best children’s film and R. Rajeshkumar won the best director award in this category for the same film.
Travancore: A Saga of Benevolence , directed and produced by B. Jayachandran, is the best documentary cinema of the year.
G.P. Ramachandran won the award for the best book on cinema for his work titled ‘Loka Cinema-Kaazhchayum Sthalakaalangalum’ while Neelan bagged the award for the best article on cinema for the work ‘Elippathayam: Eli Purathu Akathum.’ The judging committee headed by George Onakkoor selected C.S. Venkateswaran, author of the book Malayala Cinema Paadhangal , for a special jury award.
The producer of the best film gets a cash prize of Rs.2,00,000, a statuette, and citation while the director gets a purse of Rs.1,00,000, a statuette, and citation. The award for the best director carries a cash prize of Rs.1,00,000, a statuette and citation while that for the best actor and actress includes a purse of Rs.75,000.
The award for the second best actor, comedian, child artiste, screenplay, story, cinematography, lyrics, music direction, playback singer, and editor carries a purse of Rs.40,000.
