JD Chekravarthy spills the bean on ‘All the Best' and tells us what draws crowds to theatres today

JD Chekravarthy describes All The Best as a very positive title, something that exudes a warm feel. This is his third film with Srikant the first two being Egire Pavurama and One By Two which were both hits.

He says, “In this film there are 63 characters and all of them at some point of time keep saying ‘All the best', either they are wishing each other or it has something to do with the twist in the tale. To be honest after the script had been completed and we were looking for the title, we didn't find one. This despite the fact that the characters using the title so many times in their dialogue. Only when we went location hunting we thought of it.”

The film, the director reveals, was shot in 67 locations mainly in Hyderabad, Vishakapatanam, Rajamundry and Dubai.The beauty will definitely be visible on screen. The film was supposed to be released on 15 June but the director was advised to postpone it by a week on account of the by-poll results.

He reveals the synopsis of the film which has him playing a con man and Srikant the nice guy: “It is about why a nice person joins me. Basically I play an easy going person who has a gift of the gab and through my smooth talking I cheat people and make money. The rest of the 63 characters join me and Srikant too comes in and there comes the thrill, suspense and entertainment. When the topic of casting arose, we thought of having two newcomers or two seasoned performers. I was preferred to play the negative role and Srikant was the obvious choice because we needed someone who was good at tug of war.”

What happened To Gadpu, the film with his nephew?

After Money Money More Money which did fetch him money, Chekri was keen on Gadpu but he felt two consequent thrillers would be too much for the audience and took up a wholesome entertainer. He says, “The interval and the climax scenes are the highpoints of the story. Lucky Sharma and Anisha are the new faces.”

He observes that people don't go to theatres to watch stars or because the film is a big or small banner production. It is not that they know the story, they don't.

There should be something about the teaser, promos should evoke some kind of interest.

On the flip side, there is a myth that if there is great visibility or publicity the prospects of a film increases, but it is not true. “If someone you dislike keeps calling every day so many times...there is no chance you'll like them, you will dislike them more and someone if you really like calls you even once a month, you will want to talk to the person. If they have decided not to see a film, they will not, come what may.”
