A still from Thuppakki

A still from Thuppakki

What it is about…

V. Creations’ Thuppakki , produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu and directed by A.R. Murugadoss, features Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead, and Sathyan, Vidyut Jamwal, Manobala and Jayaram in supporting roles. Murugadoss has also taken care of the story, screenplay and dialogue. Harris Jayaraj has scored the music; Santhosh Sivan is the cinematographer; Sreekar Prasad is the editor; and Sunil Babu, the art director. The audio of Thuppakki was released with much fanfare by producer Thanu and received by Film News Anandan. A teaser trailer of the film was released on the occasion.

Music highlights

There are seven songs in the album and ‘Google Google,’ sung by actor Vijay, is the best. The engineer-turned-lyricist Karky has used English words appealingly in the song. ‘Antarctica’ by the same lyricist has been sung with verve by Vijay Prakash, Krish and Devan — Rajeev has rendered the rap portions. ‘Kuttipuli Koottam,’ penned by Viveka and sung by Hariharan, Thippu, Narayanan Sathyan and Ranina Reddy, grows on you. ‘Poi Varuvai,’ sung by Karthik and Chinmayi and written by Pa. Vijay, and ‘Vennilave’, in the voices of Hariharan and Bombay Jayshree, written by Na. Muthukumar, are pleasant. Pa.Vijay (the lyricist), Harris (the composer) and Javid Ali, Sayonara Philips and Sharmila (the singers) are at their best in ‘Alaikka Laikka’. ‘Jagdish on Mission,’ the theme, comes last on the album.

What they say…

Producer Kalipuli S. Thanu:Thuppakki was offered to me on a platter. It came as a sweet surprise when Vijay’s father S. A. Chandrasekaran, who was to produce the film, asked me to do so. He had already finalised the cast and crew. With Murugadoss helming it, I was sure of Tuppakki ’s success even before the film took shape.

Director A.R. Murugadoss: I was happy to make a movie with actor Vijay. He has got a remarkable sense of timing. Playing a North Indian army officer, Vijay had to deliver some lines in Hindi which he did effortlessly. I think he can act in a straight Hindi film soon. We are planning to schedule the film’s release during Deepavali.

Hero Vijay: Deft direction and interesting screenplay are Murugadoss’ forte. I share a great rapport with the director. I have also sung a song for the film. I feel Thuppakki will be a milestone in my career.

Music director Harris Jayaraj: When I saw the double positive of Thuppakki before scoring the music, I thanked producer Thanu for giving me such a wonderful film. I requested Murugadoss to persuade actor Vijay to sing a song and he agreed. The song has come out well.
