What it is about…

Pranav Productions’ Rettai Vaalu tells the story of a mother who is unable to show her affection towards her second son for some strange reason and how this eventually affects the boy’s life. Produced by S.K. Jaya Ilavarasan, the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by Desika. The cast comprises Akil, Saranya Nag, Kovai Sarala, Thambi Ramaiah, ‘Pasanga’ Sivakumar and Sairamani. The music is composed by Selvaganesh and the lyrics are by Vairamuthu. The first audio CD was released by Vairamuthu and received by producers R.B. Choudary and Keyar.

Music highlights

There are six songs in the album and the best one is ‘Aatha Enakku’ in rag Natabhairavi and sung by Srinivas and M.M. Manasi. ‘Kulukulunguthu,’ sung by Chinmayi, is based on Sankarabharanam and Bilahari. ‘Pallikoodam,’ rendered by Lakshman Aravind, Harish, and Rishi Ravikumar, will want you to listen to it over and over again. The other appealing numbers are ‘Malai Soodiya Manamagale,’ sung by Karthik and M.M. Manasi, and ‘Vanthu Nillu Vanthu Nillu’ sung by Priya Himesh and Lallu Prasath.

What they say…

Producer S.K. Jaya Ilavarasan: I am in the real estate business. I never thought I would produce a film one day. But I liked the way director Desika narrated the story and we went ahead with production. Director Desika: I have 15 years of experience in the field, working under various directors such as Sakthi Chidambaram, Thambi Ramaiah and Sairamani. Now that the filming of Rettai Vaalu is over, I am confident of its success at the box office.

Hero Anil: I acted in Balaji Sakthivel’s Kalluri and followed it up with a film titled Valmiki . I am fortunate to have landed the lead role in Rettai Vaalu , which is based on a real-life incident. I have a couple more films in the pipeline, but I think Rettai Vaalu will give me the much-needed break.

Music director Selvaganesh: A kanjira player, I started composing for films with Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu . Rettai Vaalu is my seventh film. Both the songs and the background score have come out well.
