It’s a gem of a movie, about the bonding between a grandson and his grandmother. Ganesh Kumar Mohan’s Kuttimaa won four awards at the recently held Little Shows Awards in Chennai. It won awards for best film, best location and best supporting actor. It also bagged the Viewers’ Choice award. KR Rangamma, who played the grandmother, beamed as she took home her prize.
“We were hopeful, at least about paati winning an award,” says Ganesh. The team, he says, is delighted. Interestingly, the film’s lush surroundings also won it the best location award. It was primarily shot in and around Coimbatore and parts of Tiruchi. “That award is really special because short filmmakers go through a lot of difficulties to shoot within a budget. We face issues with permissions and the like,” elaborates Ganesh.
Kuttimaa competed with over 600 short films from across the country to bag the top honours.
The movie means a lot to Ganesh at a personal level too; its story is a throwback to the lovely relationship he shared with his late grandmother.
The awards function ended on a sweet note with producer S. Kathiresan of Five Star Films ( Aadukalam , Jigarthanda… ) announcing on stage that Ganesh is to direct a film for his banner. “It’s a satire. I’ve written the script and am scouting for the lead actor,” says Ganesh. After that, he hopes to bring Kuttimaa to the big screen.
