Following its tradition of remaking their south indian films into Hindi and vice versa, UTV has now licensed its 2008 film Aamir , written and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, for a Tamil remake to Shoundaryan Pictures owned by Vidyal Raju. The Tamil version will be directed by first time director Anand Krishna. The leading role essayed by Rajeev Khandelwal in the original will be reprised by Vidarth of Mynaa fame. A UTV Spotboy release, the film was responsible for the beginning of UTV’s successful association with Raj Kumar Gupta and composer Amit Trivedi. The production house earlier remade A Wednesday in Tamil ( Unnaipol Oruvan ) and Telugu ( Eenadu ), Khosla Ka Ghosla in Tamil ( Poi Solla Poram ), and Delhi Belly in Tamil ( Settai ) which released last month. It had also tasted success with Rowdy Rathore , a remake of Siruthai in Tamil and Vikramarkudu in Telugu.

Director Raj Kumar Gupta, who is currently promoting Ghanchakkar (releasing on June 28) — his third film with UTV post Aamir and No One Killed Jessica , is excited about this development “I’m really happy to hear that my first film Aamir is now being remade in Tamil. The Tamil audience is discerning and I’m confident that the Tamil remake of this great story will garner as much acclaim as its Hindi version. I wish the makers the very best from all of us.”
“ Aamir is one of my personal favourites. In the Hindi version, Raj Kumar Gupta has shown the underbelly of Mumbai and I will be showing the other side of Chennai. The original film has a very powerful screenplay and I hope that I can create the same magic with the remake,” says director Anand Krishna.
UTV is also remaking its Tamil production Vettai in Hindi, which is to be directed by N Linguswamy.
