A Hindi novelist, Kapil Isapuri, has approached the Delhi High Court claiming damages of Rs.1 crore, from the makers of the Aamir Khan movie, PK , which he alleges has been plagiarised from his book “Farishta”.

The court on Thursday sought a response from the producers of the movie, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Raj Kumar Hirani, who have to file their replies on September 4.

The petitioner has claimed that the producers had “stolen the characters, expression of ideas and scenes from the novel”.

The lawyers for the filmmakers said that they had initially registered the script with the writers association in Mumbai on July 29, 2010, with the title Ghar Jaana Hai .

Five versions

Thereafter, five versions of the script were submitted and the final version of the script was registered in 2012 with the title PK .

The movie was finally released in December 2014.

The novelist, however, has claimed that he first submitted his manuscript in 2009 after which it was published in 2013.

Justice Najmi Waziri questioned all the parties in the case as to whether it wasn’t possible that two individuals get the same idea at the same time.
