There cannot be a lot of people who attend a Jasleen Kaur Royal live show and not be won over. The young singer is often referred to as the ‘one woman band’.

Bringing her signature euphoric music with a touch of soul, the singer, songwriter and composer who sings in Punjabi, Hindi and English comes to town as part of an event organised by Sukoon. Creating a name and a fan following across India, the artiste expresses that surprisingly, this is her first gig in Bengaluru. “I’ve travelled across the country extensively and done plenty of gigs, but never performed in Bengaluru before. It has somehow escaped my radar. I’m glad I can finally make it here.”

She adds that she’s heard a lot about the city’s music scene. “And I hope to explore it while I’m here. Musically the city’s taste is very rich. Bengalureans know how to appreciate music and I know so many indie musicians who have come from Bengaluru.”

The artiste has risen to great heights in Bollywood with stellar hits in movies, including ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ (Baar Baar Dekho), ‘Love you Zindagi’ (Dear Zindagi), ‘Din Shagna Da’ (Phillauri) and more recently Teri Dastaan (Hichki), among others.

Performing a 90-minute set of crowd favourite film hits and her originals, the artiste will showcase her flamboyance on the acoustic guitar, tambourine, melodica and harmonica while dazzling her audience with her voice .

From the audience point of view, Jasleen hopes they take back home the beauty of the poetry and music she puts together.

“I’ll be happiest if they can get out of their daily routine mindset, leave their worries behind and be moved by my music.” Looking back, Jasleen says since she can remember, she’s always wanted to be a singer. “It’s the amalgamation of passion and things that have happened over the years that have brought me here. It took a lot of time and effort, but I persevered and am grateful to where I am now.”

The journey has involved a lot of hard work and “Sleepless nights. But it has been worth it all.” What inspires her songs? “Anything and everything from people around me and the emotions I go through to the books I read and songs I listen to.” Jasleen says she’s an everyday person. “I don’t plan too far ahead. I like to take it as it comes. I hope to continue to travel and perform wherever I go.”

Catch Jasleen Royal unplugged, live in concert, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on June 9, 7.30 pm onwards. Tickets on Bookmyshow and Eventshigh.
