Comprising five enterprising musicians — Eric Emery, Keshav Dhar, Devesh Dayal, Aditya Ashok and Krishna Jhaveri — Skyharbor has achieved a lot since its early days in 2010. Now Hyderabad can revel in the ambient metal tunes at The Moonshine Project tonight.

The festival comes at an apt time according to Skyharbor members. “The culture of metal music is in a good place at the moment,” the band explains, “The Internet and technology in general has just shrunk the world so beautifully and we can all be inspired by each other in real time and inculcate what we love in fellow contemporaries’ work into our own work and grow as musicians and people. It’s a great time to be a musician.” And Skyharbor proves 2017 is their year thus far — they went on tour with American alternative metal band Deftones through Europe.

The band’s single ‘Evolution’ from their sophomore album Guiding Lights is an everlasting favourite for fans due to the multitude of emotions it inspires in listeners. ‘Catharsis’ and ‘Celestial’ from Blinding White Noise also feature guest solos by Marty Friedman of Megadeth fame.

The band is currently working on recording and releasing their new album, much to the anticipation of fans who haven’t seen a release from Skyharbor in about a year. Working on evolving their trademark Djent sound, Keshav, who’s seen the band from its initial conception till now, explains. “I think we just get bored of sounds we’ve already heard, really quick. That’s why each album we do is so different from the last one. It’s all about taking risks and not playing it safe, be it the way your arrange your songs or making a synth part deliberately sound slightly out of tune with the guitar.”

More acts

To keep the crowd on their feet, Bengaluru-based group Space Is All We Have and local band The Tapes will be sharing the stage. Space Is All We Have, which started off as group of architecture students, has evolved into a respected ambient rock band which regularly tours the country. The Tapes, whose influences are deeply rooted with Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys, will give audiences a touch of familiarity.

Skyharbor will be rocking out tonight at The Moonshine Project from 6pm till 11pm. Tickets are available at events.brisky.co.in ranging from ₹300 to ₹600.
