Wendell Rodricks to design for IFFI

Celebrated fashion designer Wendell Rodricks will design uniforms for volunteers and staff at the upcoming International Film Festival of India here.

Vice-Chairman of the State-owned Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and filmmaker Rajendra Talak said that the Mr. Rodricks had offered to design the uniforms free of cost.

The ESG, headed by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, is a co-organiser of IFFI along with the Union Ministry for Information and Broadcasting’s Directorate of Film Festivals.

The festival is scheduled to be held from November 20 to 28.

Mr. Talak said that as on Wednesday, IFFI organisers have received 5,451 delegate registrations for the festival.

For smartphone buffs

Mr. Talak also announced a short film festival, open to delegates and visitors to the festival. Works will be considered for competition only if they are of a running time of three minutes or less, and are shot and completed at the festival between November 21 till November 25.

The theme of the short film is “IFFI as never seen before”. The film must be shot using a smartphone.

Under the special section of Goan films to be screened this year are Mahaprayan produced by Abhay Jog, Marisoul 1998 by Suyash Kamat , Zuzari by Mandar Talauliker and Tiffin Box by Brijesh Kakodkar. Sculptor Subodh Kerkar will put up art installations opposite ESG Corniche area and the beach area behind the corniche during IFFI.

Mr. Talak said this year’s edition of IFFI will see the unveiling of Bioscope, a village built on the theme of new age cinema, on November 21. The theatres in Bioscope will have seating capacity of 150 seats each. The festival would also showcase a film studio to inspire young people to explore a career in the film industry.

“We will invite stalwarts of the film industry and film institutes to bring to our young audiences the excitement of careers in various technical aspects that go into filmmaking. This will be a great platform for the film enthusiasts and aspiring film makers to understand the different career opportunities within the film industry,” said Mr. Talak.
