A series of her films ( Kaalakkoothu , Vizhithiru and Kaathadi ) are slated for release this year, but Dhanshika is eagerly awaiting the release of Uru . When director Vicky Anand narrated the script to her, she was instantly hooked. “I was curious to know how this script would be visually narrated as it was an unusual story,” says Dhanshika.
Dhanshika believes that as an artiste, Uru (which means fear in Tamil) took her to another level. “Every shot turned out to be a challenge. More than the hard work, it was sheer willpower that kept me going. We had to shoot the second half of the film in the deep forests of Kodaikanal, during the month of December, when the temperature was 3 to 4 degrees,” explains Dhanshika, “Whenever the director announced that a particular shot was ready, I used to find it difficult to emote in front of the camera, as my face would be frozen. I started spraying hot water on my face and body to get ready.”
In Uru , a psychological thriller, Kalaiarasan and Dhanshika play the lead roles, that of husband and wife. Kalaiarasan portrays the character of an unsuccessful writer/novelist, while Dhanshika plays the role of an employed professional. “The film explores the struggle between the couple, how success evades Kalaiarasan and how he convinces his wife that he needs one last chance to prove himself. He then goes off to the hills to write his novel. Later, his wife goes in search of him and the film narrates the events that unfold over there.”
She’s also looking forward to Malayalam film Solo , directed by Bijoy Nambiar, in which she is paired with Dulquer Salmaan. Dhanshika plays a visually-challenged contemporary dancer in it. “I was completely blown away by the characterisation of the blind dancer when I read the script. It was indeed challenging to adapt to contemporary dance movement, but it will be a role close to my heart,” says Dhanshika, who will also be seen in a yet-to-be-titled Telugu-Kannada bilingual that will see her displaying martial arts, and in Vaalu Jada , a Tamil-Telugu bilingual on the theme of women’s empowerment.
