It was a show of dancing strength for the students of Dance World Studio as they exhibited their moves and skills amid loud cheer and thunderous applause of the audience. The show opened with senior boys and girls of the dance school gyrating to the peppy Bollywood number Deva Shree Ganesha from Agneepath.
After the absolutely pulsating opening number, group performances followed with dancers showcasing their proficiency in coordination and flowing movements. Lively English songs and fast numbers from Tamil and Hindi movies added to the surcharged atmosphere inside the auditorium.
From Indian street dance to hip hop, free style dancing to bollywood and kollywood medley, the entire programme was an eclectic mix of sheer delight. Students from all the four branches of the Dance World Studio participated with zest. “It was a great opportunity for our students to showcase their skills on stage in front of a big audience,” says T. Rajesh, founder of the dance school.
The show was organised as part of the examination for the dance certification programme which was conducted for the first time here. “Certificate in Indian Street Dance and Western Hip Hop is unheard of in these parts. Till recently there was no proper syllabus for these dance art forms. We have devised a syllabus and also shared it with other dance schools in the region,” he says.
Students from Tirunelveli, Tiruchi and Dindigul took the examination. Cheno from Bangkok was the international judge for the Hip Hop while popular Tamil film choreographer Johny was the judge for the Indian Street Dance form. More than 600 students took part in the exercise.
There were also guest performances by the students of Dance Orbit and Vande Mataram dance schools. The crowning moment of the show was the performance by master Cheno, who was unbelievable with his acrobatic B-boy moves. Johny and Rajesh too did justice to their calibre with spirited performances.
