Pristine forests, blue rivers and wild animals brought to life on canvases by four school students, are showcased at an all-women’s exhibition at Lalithakala Akademi art gallery in the city. Organised as a part of Thiruvananthapuram Paristhithi Utsav, it aims at conveying the message of conservation of nature.
The students’ aim was to highlight nature’s bounty that was getting destroyed by man, says Harshitha Heven, one of the students. The exhibition was planned by Harshitha along with her friends Sera Mariam Binny and Roshni Ronald, all of whom are Class 10 students at Holy Angels’ Convent school.
Sera is an avid bird watcher and loves travelling. “ I often paint the scenes that I get to see during my trips. That one of Elephants foraging is something I did on a trip to Wayanad,” she says pointing at the painting of a tusker and a calf in a bamboo forest. She is also a prize-winning cartoonist, who won the first prize in cartoon drawing at this year’s State School Arts Festival.
Shikha Sivaraman, a Plus Two student at St.Mary’s School, have had her works exhibited at different galleries across the country.
A collage of two ladies carrying water in pots in a desert stands out among her exhibits. A person of very few words, she lights up when asked about her work. “It was made using pieces of a magazine. I often try out different mediums,”says Shikha.
The photographs of Remadevi, an illustrator and cartoonist from Puthupally, is also on display. While the paintings depict the world that the young artists wish to have, Rama Devi’s photographs capture the raw beauty of the village of Puthupally that involves birds, cattle and green vistas.
The exhibition is on till June 10, from 10 am to 6 pm.
