Targeting both the Left Front and the Congress which have forged an electoral understanding, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said Jangalmahal will be on fire if the Opposition came to power.
“Remember, if you allow them to come back to power, Jangalmahal will again be on fire. There will again be blood letting. Jangalmahal will see unrest,” Ms. Banerjee said at an election rally at Silda in Paschim Medinipur district.
Jangalmahal is a continuous stretch of forest across Bankura, Paschim Medinipur and Purulia districts which had seen Left Wing extremism a few years ago.
Taking pot shots at the new found bonhomie between the Left Front and Congress, Ms Banerjee said: “They have become great friends now. The Congress has sold its tricolour to the CPI(M) The CPI(M) has sold its red flag to the Congress,” she said.
Sting impactMeanwhile, in Kolkata the ruling party was in damage control mode following remarks of party MP Dinesh Trivedi on the Narada News sting operation. Mr Trivedi had said those from the party who were allegedly seen accepting money in the sting should “sit at home till they come clean”.
“I spoke to Dinesh Trivedi. He told me only 30 seconds of his half-an- hour speech was quoted by the media,” TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay said.
