Power of Planning

Author: Vinay Mahajan

Publisher: BecomeShakespeare.com

Price: ₹300

This is a guide to personal financial planning that is all about vision — dreaming big and setting lofty goals. Of course, this should be backed up with the right planning and execution. The author says that though finance is a topic many shy away from assuming that it’s “boring”, it is something we need to discuss. We put so much thought and research into finding the right kind of smartphone to buy — similar work should go into understanding the financial products we buy, and that is where this book comes in handy. Through the four golden rules of investment broken down and discussed in this book, create a second source of income from your own savings. In other words, learn how to make your money work for you, and not the other way around.

Street Smart — Beyond MBA

Author: Suresh Padmanabhan

Publisher: Manjul Publishing House

Price: ₹175

This book analyses the strategies of Indian communities known to have been successfully involved in business and building wealth for many years. As the title implies, being street smart is the underlying basis of the strategies and mantras employed. The author emphasizes that this quality can be learned — it isn’t necessarily a talent that you are born with. He devotes a chapter or two to each of communities to tell us what we can learn from them about combining spiritual and financial growth and attracting wealth. These are tried and test strategies that have been passed down for at least four generations. For example, making decisions based on ethics and honesty, or trusting one’s instincts and be willing to take risks.
