My Jiffies

Author: Priyanka Sharma Kaintura

Publisher: Notion Press

Price: ₹299

Author Priyanka Kaintura believes that every noteworthy or minor, radical or mundane moment around us is a story, only if watched closely. And that is exactly what her book, My Jiffies, is all about — a series of moments captured and moulded into bite-sized stories that can make an impact and set you thinking. The book is divided into seven categories — “Orations”, “Monologues and dialogues”, “Pathos”, “Stories”, “Satire and sarcasm:, “Life Aphorisms and epigrams” and “Eclogues.” There are several stories under each category ranging from the contrasting side of Lord Shiva to Rachel, a character from the sitcom, FRIENDS, using the rain to mask one’s tears, and more. The book effectively captures a string of jiffies — bitter-sweet moments from everyday life.

Every individual leads a different life. Some are filled with problems, while others are more fortunate. What is life all about? A series of contrasts? It is these existential questions on life that the book seeks to answer. It is a series of poems that explains how life is not all black or all white — there are the grey areas of life which are too sensitive to segregate as good or bad. Through the course of its six chapters — Existential Seeking, Faith, Blasphemy, Nostalgia, Love and Salvation — the poems explore the meaning of life.
