From my childhood, it was my dream to study in the United Kingdom. I was raised in West Asia and studied up to undergraduation there. It was my aim to study elsewhere, gain new experiences, and meet new people.
After undergraduation, I decided to do my master’s in business and management (MBM) at the University of Strathclyde. The Strathclyde Business School has triple accreditation and is among the top 10 business schools in the U.K.
Exciting and demanding
The MSc business and management course is both exciting and demanding. My undergraduate degree was in english literature, and I was inexperienced in business management. However, this course taught me everything about business in a span of one year. The education system in the U.K. is different from the Indian system, and it took time and effort to adjust to it. The course focuses on applying what one has learnt, through assignments that are based on real-world business problems and lectures delivered by guest speakers from different industries. This helps one understand how business works in real life, with real companies and clients.
My key interest is in marketing management, and the assignment we were given for this module was to analyse and put forward recommendations for the marketing strategies of a company. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I could develop my knowledge and practical skills in marketing through this. The MBM project gives the best opportunity to apply all that one has learnt throughout the year and also to develop further knowledge through research. I am currently doing my dissertation on a topic in marketing, and the support from the supervisor and the university is outstanding. The university has various student societies and the events hosted by them bring together people of different cultures and countries.
Glasgow is a beautiful city. Though the culture and lifestyle here are different from where I have spent a major part of my life, I could easily adapt to it as people are friendly.
