Under criticism for not lifting his performance and the side in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale played superbly against Real Sociedad to set up his side’s 3-1 victory.

Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, made a winning Parc des Princes debut for Paris Saint-Germain as two own goals in the final 15 minutes allowed PSG to beat Lyon 2-0 in a thrilling encounter.

France vs Belgium in Davis Cup final; India fail to qualify for World Group

France and Belgium will battle for the Davis Cup title in November after knocking out Serbia and Australia in their respective semi-final encounters.

India, meanwhile, were consigned to the Asian zone yet again as they missed out their chance to qualify for the World Group next year. Ramkumar Ramanathan’s defeat in the must-win fourth tie meant that Yuki Bhambri’s victory in the fifth and final dead-rubber was purely academic.
