With the school winding down and the summer vacations looming ahead, it’s time to let down your hair and pick up some books.

The first, The Shy Super Girl by Shabnam Minwalla. Nina has a superpower, but she is extremely shy. She is quiet, thin and weighs only 21 kg. But, within that thin frame hides her superpower.

When a silver owl disappears from a neighbour's house, it's the shy supergirl who has to find the culprit! It is not just size that makes the hero; it is the heart as well. And, that’s what makes Nina special — her intuition, nerve, and faith in herself.

Pets and peeves

Crazy pets are bound to keep you happy and hyper all the time. Natasha Sharma introduces you to Bonkers, Armaan’s pet pup, and the name of the book. Armaan is being bullied by TT, the gang leader of Ghastly Groundhog Gang and he hoped a dog would protect him. He has been wanting a pet for ages, and finally Bonkers arrives.

But, Bonkers has his own ideas of fun. He chews up Armaan’s spectacles, eats up his shoe, messes up TT’s cricket game...making him live life on the edge. Armaan wonders if his life will ever be the same again.

This is a story of Armaan finding himself, discovering his inner courage and also about realising that everyone is afraid of something or the other. It is also a story to tell you to allow yourself to laugh.

Do you want to become a writer? Or, do you want to meet a writer? Meet Advaita.

Advaita from Delhi is in a boarding school in Dehradun. She is lonely and unhappy although she is in Dunham Girls’ School, which is supposed to be the best in Asia, her father says. But, even that doesn’t change the fact that she is lonely and unhappy. Her father has also told her that the school has a great library. And that, Advaita finds promising. She spends a lot of time in the library reading, and in the pages of her books, she manages to keep homesickness at bay.

By chance she hears that writer Ruskin Bond stays close by. In fact, just an hour away...so, for all practical purposes, breathing the same Uttarakhand air. She wonders if she too can become a writer. She comes out of her cocoon and let’s her imagination run wild. If you love books and know the power of imagination then this book is for you to give your dreams the reins.

Advaita The Writer is by Ken Spillman

Bullying is a phenomenon in most schools. Despite methods to combat it, it continues unabated. Big Bully And M-me by Arti Sonthalia tackles this. Krish has a stammer and that puts him at a disadvantage when reading aloud or answering in class. Then, to compound matters, the class teacher announces an extempore competition, the prize being tickets to the newly opened aquarium. Everyone is excited...except Krish. He has two reasons — one, is his fear of public speaking and the second is that his debating partner is Ishaan, the class bully.

His teacher, Mr Dennis is encouraging and confident that Krish can do it. Will Krish be able to overcome his fear? Will Ishaan give him a tough time?
