India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. opened a scooter boutique, claimed to be the first-of-its-kind, in Chennai as part of its marketing initiative to increase sales volume by about 20—25%, according to a top official.
“It will serve as a one-stop solution to customers,” said Roy Kurian, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. “The new scooter boutiques would add to our sales volume by 20-25%.”
The boutique offer both scooters and fashion accessories. Customers can also connect to the worldwide trend of scootering, he said.
India Yamaha plans to open 20 more scooter boutiques in metros and semi-urban centres with the next outlet scheduled to be opened at Vijayawada followed by Jamshedpur.
Regarding the Chennai manufacturing plant, Mr.Kurian said the production capacity would be scaled up to 1.8 million units by 2018. “We will also be making a capital investment of ₹300 crore next year to put up a new line.”
During 2017, the company plans to sell nine lakh vehicles (scooters and motorbikes) against 7.5 lakh vehicles sold in 2016.last year. In the first six months, the company sold 2.5 lakh scooters and 1.5 lakh motorbikes, registering a retail growth of 10%.
DuringFor the forthcoming domestic festive season, Yamaha Motor India plans to sell one lakh units of which 60% would be scooters.
