Wipro, HCL bag digital deal from English football clubs

Wipro will support Chelsea FC by bringing together strategy, design and technology. HCL and ManU will unveil a number of digital initiatives.

With the fresh football season in the English Premier League kicking off, two Indian IT majors have bagged the responsibility of connecting two major English teams with their fans.

India’s third largest IT provider Wipro and the fourth biggest software exporter HCL Technologies have bagged digital deals from English clubs Chelsea and Manchester United (ManU). However, both companies did not disclose the size of the agreements.

As part of the deal, HCL and Manchester United will work together to explore and unveil a number of digital initiatives to transform the experience of the football club’s 659 million global followers. HCL Technologies will also create a state-of-the-art United Xperience Lab and will be housed within the Old Trafford stadium. It will be the seventh such lab across the world.

In an email statement, Manchester United Group, Managing Director, Richard Arnold, said: “Our partnership with HCL is a first for Manchester United. With the introduction of the United Xperience lab at Old Trafford, we hope to demonstrate best practices within the industry to generate new ideas that leverage the latest technology available in the evolving digital landscape.”

In a separate agreement, Wipro has announced partnership with Chelsea Football Club. According to the company, Wipro will be the official digital and IT partner of the ‘The Blues’.
