Virtualisation is one of the most important factors that will change the way people work, Lakshmi Narayanan, vice-chairman, Cognizant Technology Solutions, said here on Saturday.
With technology-driven innovation, the opportunities that will come up are going to be phenomenal, he said. And key to this was virtualisation – a factor that was going to change the way industries work. The best part was that anyone capable of delivering global quality could participate in the virtualisation process.
He was speaking at the Madras Management Association's annual convention on ‘Global Opportunities – The Indian Answer.'
Citing a recent Deloite report, Mr. Narayanan said talent-driven innovation was the key issue that investors setting up manufacturing companies across the world were looking at. This was on top of the list and common to CEOs across the world. Close on its heels came cost of talent, raw materials and labour. Tax practices, laws and ease of doing business were other factors that investors put on the top five factors.
Though infrastructure was being perceived as a main issue, it did not figure in the top five issues that Deloite mapped. The Deloite study also showed that in terms of manufacturing competitiveness India was second, following China.
There are a lot of changes taking place across the world, Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan said. People now had access to quality products and services and there was relatively free flow of goods and services. In India, the IT industry had a certain sustainable global advantage, which would have to be harnessed.
