Adding to the woes of the power starved State a 500 MW unit of the NTPC’s Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station (SSTPS) was forced to shut down early on Wednesday morning following a technical snag.
The Unit II of Phase I of the SSTPS was shutdown due to a lube leakage. The NTPC staff are working on the unit and it is likely to get back to power generation either by late evening or Thursday morning, a spokesperson for the NTPC told The Hindu .
The shutdown is a matter of concern, Director (Operations) of APEPDCL HY Dora said and added that it is likely due to shortage of coal or due to poor quality of the raw material.
Already one unit of Vijayawada Thermal Power Station is down for maintenance and this would add to the problem of power cuts faced by the electricity consumers in the State.
