Sensex opens higher by 125 points on Asian cues

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose by over 125 points, or 0.71 per cent, in opening trade on Thursday on buying by funds after firm global cues.

The 30—share index gained 125.48 points, or 0.71 per cent, to 17,653.25 points.

The wide—based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved up by 36.40 points, or 0.69 per cent, to 5,285.50 points.

Market men said investors took cues from the Asian markets which gained nearly 1 per cent in early trade.

The official data showing exports surging by 34 per cent in February also boosted the trading sentiment.

The Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 0.92 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.71 per cent in the morning trade today.
