After fashion portal Myntra adopted app-only mode, taxi aggregator Ola, today said that the company would soon go mobile-app only across its 100 cities of operations. The company also said its call centre will continue to operate 24x7, exclusively for customer support and assistance.
Ola launched its app in 2011 and sees around 99 per cent of its booking requests coming through the app. Ola has decided to accept booking requests only through this medium from the coming month.
Ola has also rolled out an updated version of its application that will allow users to use the app even on a 2G networks. The app is available on all major platforms like Windows, Android and iOS. Fashion portal Myntra, which is part of Flipkart in May announced its plan to go app only way by shutting the desktop and browser-based services.
“From receiving just about 20 per cent of booking requests on the app at launch, Ola receives as much as 99 per cent of its bookings through the app at current scale. Ola’s ‘mobile first’ focus coupled with increasing mobile and smartphone penetration across the country has made booking a cab through an app, an intuitive thing to do for users,” the company said in a press release.
Even in smaller cities where the company has launched its services in the past year, more than 95 per cent of bookings come through the app at the moment, it added.
Pranay Jivrajka, Chief Operating Officer at Ola said, “With 99% of our bookings coming through our app today, it is clear that our users prefer the seamless app-experience to any other mode of booking. This will allow us to deliver a consistent one-touch booking experience as well as improved ride experience.”
