Small-scale and micro units here have welcomed the recent announcement by the Union Government that public sector units should procure 20 per cent of the annual goods from small and micro enterprises.
Coimbatore District Small Industries' Association president M. Kandhaswami has said in a release that the micro, small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs) were susceptible to market fluctuations.
When Government departments and public sector units procured 20 per cent of their requirements from the micro and small units, the industries would have a steady flow of orders.
Infrastructure
The Government should create the right infrastructure and support systems to enable these units maintain quality and commitment schedules.
J. James, President of Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises, has said in a release that the MSMEs were the backbone of the country's economy and the announcement would benefit these units.
The procurement procedure should be implemented at the earliest and committee should be formed at the district and State levels to get orders for the MSMEs from the public sector units.
Simplify procedures
President of Coimbatore and Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Entrepreneurs Association S. Ravikumar has said in a release that the 20 per cent procurement should be mandatory from the first year of implementation.
The procurement procedures should be simplified so that the benefits reached the MSMEs.
