Sensex up 73 points in early trade

The BSE benchmark index Sensex on Tuesday recovered by nearly 73 points in early trade on fresh spell of buying by funds amid a mixed trend in the Asian region.

The 30-share index, which had lost 233.35 points on Monday, recovered by 72.95 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 18,613.84. with stocks in metal, oil and gas and power leading the recovery.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty rose by 24.30 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 5,614.55 points.

Brokers said fresh buying by funds amid a mixed trend on other Asian bourses mainly influenced the trading sentiment.

In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was down 0.19 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.65 per cent in early trade.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.94 per cent lower in Monday’s trade.
