Sensex rises by 120 points in opening trade

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex recovered by over 120 points, 0.69 per cent, in the opening trade today on fresh capital inflows from foreign funds amid moderate gains in global markets.

The 30-share index, which had lost 167.66 points in the previous session, recovered by 120.22 points to 17,530.79 points in the opening trade.

The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 48.40 points, or 0.92 per cent, to 5243.60 points.

Stock brokers said overnight gains on the US market and better trend on the Asian bourses mainly buoyed trading sentiments here.

Among gainers, Reliance Industries was up by 0.58 per cent at Rs 1,080.15, Reliance Infra 0.71 per cent to Rs 1023, Infosys technology 0.84 per cent to Rs 2779.80, Tata Steel 1.10 per cent to Rs 636.70, Sterlite Industries 1.64 per cent to Rs 825.50 and the State Bank of India 0.20 per cent to Rs 2045.15.

Meanwhile, the US Dow Jones Industrial average ended 0.41 per cent higher in the previous session, while the Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was up 1.1 per cent in the morning trade today.
