Rupee gains 5 paise against dollar in early trade

May 31, 2016 09:54 am | Updated 09:54 am IST - Mumbai

The rupee recovered by 5 paise to 67.11 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on fresh selling of the US currency by banks and exporters.

Forex dealers said a higher opening in the domestic equity market and a weakening dollar against other currencies overseas supported the rupee.

Yesterday, the rupee retreated from its one-week high to close 13 paise lower at 67.16 against the US currency on fresh bouts of dollar demand from importers.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 111.60 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 26,837.20 in early trade on Tuesday.
