The rupee fell by 25 paise to Rs. 50.97 against the American currency on the Interbank Foreign Exchange in early trade on Wednesday weighed down by dollar’s gains against other currencies overseas.

Dealers said besides dollar’s gains against the euro and other Asian currencies overseas, a weak opening in the stock market also put pressure on the rupee.

The rupee had ended higher by 15 paise at 50.72/73 against the dollar in the previous session amid signs of fresh capital inflows.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex declined by 103.91 points, or 0.59 per cent, at 17,493.51 in early trade.
