Nifty hits new high; Sensex up nearly 500 points

Investors were bullish on Tuesday after the BJP's massive win in Uttar Pradesh.

The Nifty hit a new high at 9,122.75 and the Sensex soared 616 points to 29,561.93 in early trade on Tuesday. The move is seen as a reaction to the BJP’s victory in the important battleground State of Uttar Pradesh.

The NSE index rose as much as 2.1% to a record high of 9,122.75 points, surpassing the previous peak of 9,119.20 hit on March 4, 2015.

All sectoral indices led by bank, capital goods and realty were in the positive zone with gains up to 2.2%.

Meanwhile, the rupee soared 42 paise to 66.18 against the  U.S. dollar. The industrial production bouncing back in January, expanding by 2.7% year-on-year too supported the rupee.
