Look straight and stay straight. Thus summed up A. Sivasailam, Chairman of the Amalgamation Group, when asked what would be his advice to upcoming entrepreneurs.

Mr. Sivasailam met the press informally after the inaugural session of the 36th convention of All-India Management Association here on Friday. It was a rare occasion to cherish for presspersons when he consented to address them. With him were his two daughters — Jayshree and Mallika Srinivasan — Mr. Sivasailam said he always stayed straight.

This had kept him in good stead in his business, he added.

Asked to comment on how ethically business was done these days when compared to former times, he said “ethics is a matter of personal standard. Circumstances may make a person take a decision that is not ethical in our standards,” he said.

Corporates, he said, should set aside some money for primary education. Character-building should be a part of the curriculum, he said. In this context, he also called for creating quality teachers in the system.

He felt that management was required at all levels of governance in life and that it should revolve around truth.
