DCI to buy higher capacity hopper dredgers

Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) plans to procure two 9,000 cubic metres hopper capacity dredgers to enhance its capacity to meet the needs of dredging requirements of ports, according to Union Minister of Shipping G. K. Vasan. It had also placed orders in 2010 and 2011 for three state-of-the-art Trailer Suction Hopper dredgers of 5,500 cubic metre hopper capacity with IHC Dredgers BV., the Netherlands, costing 250 million euro.

Mr. Vasan, on a three-day visit to the Netherlands from April 1, was speaking at the launch of one of the three Trailer Suction Hopper dredgers in Rotterdam. The new dredger has been named DCI Dredge-XIX, according to a release.

The dredgers would be delivered to DCI from September this year.
