World’s leading car manufacturing company Volkswagen said it hoped to double its sell in the Indian market.
“In 2008, we sold 1,566 cars in India. During this financial year, we want to have cent per cent growth by selling over 3,000 cars,” Neeraj Garg, member of the Board and Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars told reporters here.
He was in the city to name the company’s dealer in Rajkot.
Volkswagen Rajkot is company’s third dealership in Gujarat, the other two being in Ahmedabad and Surat. The fourth dealership would be in Vadodara, Garg said.
He said Volkswagen India has already 25 outlets and aims to take the number to 40 during the current fiscal.
Garg said even during the recession, the company sold 63 lakh vehicles worldwide which indicates that the company product is doing well in the market.
Despite high selling during the economic slowdown, Garg said the company is facing big challenge in India to repeat their last year’s success.
Volkswagen has introduced two models namely locally assembled ‘Passat’ in 2007 and ‘Jetta’ in 2008, Garg said adding a hatchback model ‘Polo’, especially designed to meet the requirements of the Indian market is scheduled for launch next year.
