Tata Steel posts Rs. 1,790.19 crore profit for Q1

Tata Steel on Thursday reported a consolidated net profit of Rs. 1,790.19 crore for the April- June quarter of the fiscal.

The company had suffered a loss of Rs. 2,238.53 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.

Total operating income of the steel giant stood at Rs. 27,194.80 crore for the April-June quarter of the current fiscal, compared to Rs. 23,292.31 crore in the year-ago period, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

On a standalone basis, the leading steel-maker registered a profit of Rs. 1,579.39 crore for the June quarter, compared to Rs. 789.83 crore in the same quarter of FY’10.

Shares of Tata Steel on Thursday closed at Rs. 519.80 on the BSE, down 0.12 per cent from the previous close.
