Symantec Corp, a leading provider of security, storage and systems management solutions, announced on Wednesday the opening of its new global security operations centre (SOC) in India. The centre, set up at the DLF Info City in Chennai, was inaugurated by Gulshan Rai, Director General, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT In).
Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Gulshan Rai said India's public and private sectors were witnessing increasing dependency on information technology which was fuelled by various government-driven IT-enabled initiatives. This rapid adoption of IT for personal and business purposes required a secure computing environment. Infrastructure such as Symantec's SOC was an important step towards building a robust cyber security eco system, he said.
According to Ajay Goel, Managing Director, India and SAARC Region of Symantec, the Chennai centre, along with SOC's in the U.K., the U.S., and Australia, would be part of the first line of defence against online threats for customers across the world. The SOC would offer real-time, comprehensive protection from known and emerging threats enabling business and governments to minimise risk and strengthen their security posture. He said Symantec's SOCs analysed more than ten billion logs worldwide each day to provide enterprise-wide protection and help customers bolster defences and respond to new threats. Protecting citizens and businesses in cyberspace requires cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art infrastructure, especially since criminals in the virtual world are creating new attacks every second.
According to Shantanu Ghosh, Vice-President, India Product Operations, Symantec, the Chennai SOC together with the Security Response Lab in Pune would offer customers the most comprehensive and up-to-the-minute threat intelligence possible. Symantec had 3,000 employees under its roll across its centres in Pune, Chennai and Bangalore and the company was looking forward to expand its operations further.
