Budget carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday said it will start services between Madurai and Colombo from September 20.
“SpiceJet will be the first airline to operate regular international services from Madurai. We hope the direct flight will help boost tourism between the two countries,” SpiceJet CEO Neil Mills said.
Madurai is the second Indian destination, which will be connected to Colombo by SpiceJet. Currently, it operates direct fights between Colombo and Chennai.
The airline will deploy its new turboprop Bombardier Q400 aircraft on the Madurai-Colombo route. The aircraft can carry 78 passengers.
