July 12, 2011 12:13 am | Updated 12:13 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Leading renewable energy power company Orient Green Power Company (OGPL) has commissioned a 18.7 MW wind farm project at Gudimangalam in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu. With this new addition, OGPL now has an operating capacity of 172 MW of wind energy in Tamil Nadu making it the leading wind independent power producers (IPPs) in the state. OGPL's total operating capacity in India comprising both wind and biomass power stands at 248.5 MW.

The synchronising of this wind farm comes close on the heels of the 10 MW biomass plant commissioned last week near Pollachi in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking about the development, P. Krishnakumar, Managing Director said the company was proud to synchronise two projects in the space of a few days.

“Our capacity addition plans have gained momentum and there are significant projects in the pipeline which will take our renewable energy capacity in Tamil Nadu to 342 MW by the end of this financial year. This capacity addition will lead to enhanced availability of power especially in the Tiruppur district, which comprises a large proportion of industrial and SME consumers,'' he added.
