Efforts to reopen the mother unit of Dunlop India Ltd (DIL) at Sahagunj in West Bengal's Hooghly district failed to yield results on Friday, as no common ground could be found. It has been decided to meet again in the first week June.
The tripartite level talk was called by the West Bengal Labour Department.
The unit, with nearly 700 people on its rolls, has been closed since October 2011 following work suspension declared by the management.
The trade unions present at today's [Friday's] meeting wanted the company to clear its dues as a precondition for reopening the unit. The dues on account of past arrears, including salary arrears for the closure period, amount to Rs.5 crore and the management was not willing to fork out this money.
