Neyveli Lignite Corporation has registered 8.95 per cent growth in lignite production in the third quarter ended December 31, 2012, at 56.01 lakh tonnes against 51.408 lakh tonne during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Power generation registered a growth of 13.12 per cent to 4,575.75 million units (MU) from 4,045.10 MU during the corresponding period of the previous year.
During the third quarter of 2012-13 sales turnover stood at Rs. 1,255.70 crore as compared to Rs. 1,045.99 crore in the year-ago period, registering a growth of 20 per cent. The profit after tax stood at Rs. 221.65 crore as compared to Rs. 184.94 crore, a growth of 19.85 per cent.
The company is implementing expansion plans at TPS-II (500 MW) at Neyveli and a coal based power plant of 1000 MW at Tuticorin. Both these projects are expected to be completed in the year 2013-14 and the power generating capacity will be raised to 4240 MW after the completion of these projects.
The corporation is also spreading its wings in new projects with fuels other than lignite.
