Luxury car-maker Mercedes-Benz India today reported a 58.81 per cent jump in sales to 640 units in January, 2011, its highest-ever tally for the month in any year.

The company sold 403 units in the corresponding month last year, Mercedes-Benz India said in a statement.

The Germany-based car-maker saw sales of its C-Class sedans jump to 265 units, while E-Class models found 252 buyers in India. Mercedes recorded sales of 46 premium S-Class sedans in January, 2011, it added.

The entire range of sports utility vehicles - M, GL and R class cars - witnessed 67 units of sales last month.

This clearly shows that our exciting products, strong brand traction and ownership experience continue to be highly appreciated by our customers,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Peter T. Honegg said.

Meanwhile, another luxury car-maker, Audi, sold 480 units in January, 2011 - its highest-ever monthly sales in India - as against 306 units in the same month last year, translating into a 56.86 per cent increase.
