Coimbatore-based Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW) launched a moving column vertical machining centre, JVM 60.
Company Director-Finance R. Rajendran told The Hindu that the machine, launched at International Industrial Trade Fair (INTEC) here on Wednesday, was mainly for the automobile, auto component and general engineering sectors.

Eyes global R&D tie-ups
The turnover of the machine tool division of LMW in 2010-11 was Rs.180 crore and it was expected to be 10-15 per cent higher this year. Nearly 70 per cent of the country's machine tool needs were imported. LMW was looking at tie-ups with international agencies for research and development to develop high-value machines. The machine tool division manufactured CNC lathes, machining centres, and machine tools.
The JVM 60 was designed to meet the growing demand for speed and accuracy in the user industries, he said.
