Income-tax officials, on Tuesday, carried out a survey at Nokia India’s premises in Sriperumbudur on its tax liability.
According to IT sources, a team of 10 officers visited Sriperumbudur and were in the process of carrying out a similar exercise in New Delhi too. “It is not a raid or search and the results will be out in the next few days,” said an IT official. Officials from the IT department have ‘visited’ the company’s factory at Sriperumbudur near here. A company spokesperson confirmed the ‘visit’ by IT men.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “Earlier today, tax officials visited Nokia’s manufacturing unit in Chennai.”
The statement went on to add, “Nokia is fully co-operating to ensure they (IT officials) get necessary information to help in their inquiry.”
It is gleaned from informed sources that the IT officials’ ‘visit’ continued well into the evening.
Good citizen
“As a global company, Nokia consistently fields a large and steady number of tax queries, audits and assessments,” the statement said. “Nokia’s commitment to being a good corporate citizen is firm, and unwavering,” it added.
“We always observe applicable laws and rulings in the countries where we operate. This has been a core principle of our operations in India, where Nokia has been present since 1995,” the statement went on to add.
