IT behemoth Infosys Technologies on Tuesday said it is awaiting approvals for 224 patent applications in India and in the U.S.

Infosys applied for eight patent applications in India and the U.S. during the fourth quarter of 2009-10, the nation’s second largest software exporter said in a statement.

“With this (after 8 fresh patent applications in March quarter), Infosys has an aggregate of 224 patent applications (pending) in India and the U.S. and has been granted nine patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office,” it said.

“Our intellectual property-based solutions continue to benefit clients,” the IT major said.

The company also said that it is designing and implementing a research informatics system at a leading biotechnology company to accelerate discovery research. It, however, did not disclose the identity of the biotech firm.
