Borg India launches solar power generators

January 08, 2013 12:06 am | Updated 12:06 am IST - CHENNAI:

Alternative energy firm Borg Inc., on Friday, entered the Indian market through its subsidiary, Borg India, with the launch of solar power generators aimed at the residential segment.

“The ‘Astra Smart Grid Series’ that we are introducing here offers what we call a grid-fallback system, which uses solar power during the day to save the cost of grid power,” said Boaz Augustin, Chairman and Managing Director, Borg India.

He was addressing reporters here at the formal launch of the Astra series. The smart grid equipment will only use grid power when solar power is unavailable, allowing solar power use to be prioritised whenever sunlight is present.

While the initial product line-up, which will be available over the next two weeks, is aimed at homes, the company will introduce solar power solutions for the commercial and agricultural segments later this year.

“The range has four different products — there is the Basic unit (500 watts), the Prime (800 watts) the Silver (1,000 watts), and Gold (2,500 watts). The pricing will be Rs.48,000, Rs.87,000, Rs.1.59 lakh and Rs.2.58 lakh, respectively,” Dr. Augustin said.

The company has set up a distributor network across Tamil Nadu, where it would be initially available, and would be expanded to pan-India over the next six months.
