The Centre, concerned over the recent abrupt hike in air fares, on Thursday said the air fares on every sector and route should have a lower and higher price band.
“Fares on the lower and higher price band on every sector will have to be notified. It has to be in the public domain on each airline's website on what would be the fares on the higher price band,'' Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told reporters on the sidelines of the aviation conference, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
He said the government and the Director General of Civil Aviation had taken a serious note of ‘ exorbitant prices' charged by the airlines on most routes and had issued notices to them.
Commenting on reports that spot bookings for certain routes, including Delhi-Mumbai, had risen by 300 per cent after Diwali, Mr. Patel said, “this kind of predatory pricing cannot be justified, it is unfair to the passengers.''
